Mr. Gordon proposed the following amendment:

Insert, in 13th line, after the word "dollars," "each clerk
of the Circuit court, the sum of three hundred dollars;"

Which was rejected.

Mr. Turner, of Howard, proposed the following amend-
ment:

Strike out the tax, so far as relates to the judges of the
Orphans' court of Howard county;

Which was rejected.

Mr. Durant proposed the following amendment:

In 13th line, strike out "twenty," and insert "ten;"

Which was rejected.

Mr. Denison, of Baltimore county, proposed the following
amendment:

"Provided, that all offices, the yearly income from which
does not amount to seventy-five dollars, he exempted from
this act;"

Which was adopted.

Mr. Briscoe offered the following substitute for the third
section:

"Section 3. The clerk of the Court of Appeals, the clerk of
the Superior court of Baltimore city, the clerk of the Crimi-
nal court and the clerk of the Court of Common Pleas of Bal-
timore, shall each pay to the Treasurer the sum of seventy-
five dollars, and the clerks of the several circuit courts of the
several counties of this State shall each pay to the Treasurer
of the State, when they take their oath of office, the sum of
fifty dollars; provided, that the provisions of the preceding
sections of this act shall not apply to officers of this State
whose yearly income does not exceed seventy-five dollars;"

Which was adopted.

The hill, as amended, was then read the second time, and
by special order the third time, and passed by yeas and nays
as follow:
