On the call of the roll,

On motion of Mr. Ford,
All further proceedings under the call were dispensed with.

The House then proceeded to the election of United States
Senator to supply the place of the Hon. James Alfred Pearce,
whose term will expire on the 4th of March, 1861, and upon
the call of the roll it appeared that sixty members had voted,
when the ballot-box was sealed, and delivered by the Speaker
into the hands of Messrs. Freaner and Naill, tellers on the
part of the House, to join the gentlemen who had been ap-
pointed on the part of the Senate, and the said tellers then
proceeded to the Senate Chamber for the purpose of counting
the ballots.

After an absence of some time, the tellers on the part of
the House returned and reported that, with the tellers on the
part of the Senate, they had counted the ballots cast for
Senator, and that 85 votes were cast, of which Hon. James
Alfred Pearce had received 50 votes and that James U.
Dennis had received 34 votes, and that there was one blank
ballot.

Whereupon, the Speaker declared that the Hon. James
Alfred Pearce had been duly elected United States Senator
for the term of six years from the 4th of March, 1861.

The House then proceeded to the election of Bank Directors
on the part of the State ;

And upon the call of the roll it appeared that 65 mem-
bers had voted, when the ballot-box was sealed and delivered
by the Speaker into the hands of Messrs. Freaner and Nail],
tellers on the part of the House, to join the gentleman who
had been appointed on the part of the Senate, and the said
tellers then proceeded to the Senate Chamber for the purpose
of counting the ballots.

After an absence of some time, the tellers on the part of
the House returned, and reported that, with the tellers on
the part of the Senate, they had counted the ballots for Bank
Directors on the part of the State, and that R. H. Mitchell
received 43 for Director in the Bank of Baltimore.

For Directors in Mechanics' Bank of Baltimore :

John Hoffman.......................................... 42 votes.

S. H. Briscoe.......................................... 44 "

For Directors in Easton Bank:

J. Lloyd Martin....................................... 44 "

L. T. H.Irving....................................... 55 "
