Mr. Burgess offered the following:
Ordered, That a committee of three be appointed by the
Speaker to investigate the accounts of Milton Whitney,
State's attorney of Baltimore, and that they be empowered
to summon before them, with their vouchers for all moneys
paid to the said Milton Whitney during the past four years,
Sheriff Creamer, Samuel Maccubbin, the City Comptroller,
Thomas Gardner, clerk of the Criminal court, and the clerk
of Sheriff Gaskins;
Which was adopted, and Messrs. Burgess, Gordon and
Freaner were appointed said committee.
Mr. Turner, of Howard, made a favorable report on the
bill entitled, an act to authorise the opening of a public road
in Howard and Montgomery counties;
Which was read the first time.
The bill entitled, an act. to authorise the Gas-Light com-
pany of Baltimore, incorporated by the act of 1816, chapter
251, to increase its capital stock;
Was read the third time, and passed by yeas and nays as
follow:
