The question then recurring upon the bill of Mr. Jacobs,
being the bill entitled, an act to amend the 65th article of
the code of public general laws, by repealing the 41st, 42nd,
43rd, 44th, 45th, 46th sections, providing for and regulating
the manumission of slaves, the 61st section forbidding the
assembling of negroes for religious purposes; the 30th sec-
tion, which punishes the allowing slaves to go at large; the
47th, 48th, 49th, 50th, 51st, 52nd, 53rd and 54th sections,
which prohibits and punishes the immigration of free negroes,
and the 75th and 76th sections, prohibiting negroes to keep
dog or gun, and to substitute therefor the following sections
in lieu thereof, and also to add to the said article the follow-
ing sections, punishing the teaching of negroes, prohibiting
negroes to be from their masters' homes without a pass, and
providing for making a census, sale and hire of free negroes
of this State, and authorizing free negroes to renounce their
freedom ;

Said bill being upon its second reading,

On motion of Mr. Denison, of Baltimore county,

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole,
upon the consideration of Mr. Jacobs' bill, and Mr. Dennis'
bill, No. 200, printed bill, 44 ;

After some time spent in committee of the whole, the com-
mittee rose, and through Mr. Gordon, chairman of the com-
mittee of the whole House, reported that they had Mr. Jacobs'
bill under consideration, together with Mr. Dennis' bill, No.
200, printed bill 44, have made some progress therein, and
ask leave to sit again.

On motion of Mr. Bayless,

It was ordered, That when this House adjourns, it stands
adjourned until 4½ o'clock.

On motion of Mr. Ford,
The House adjourned at 3¼ o'clock, P. M.
