ise the laying down and equipment of a railway on the Bal-
timore and Yorktown Turnpike road, between Baltimore city
and Towsontown, and the collection of tolls thereon;

A bill entitled, an act to continue in force the act to incor-
porate the Queen Anne's and Kent county Railroad com-
pany;

Severally endorsed "passed by yeas and nays,"

Which were read the first time, and referred to the com-
mittee on Corporations.

A bill entitled, an act to widen and straighten the public
road from Beaver Dam, via Dixon's tavern and Sudlersville,
to Coppaye's landing, in Queen Anne's county;

Endorsed: "passed by yeas and nays;"

Which was read the first time, and referred to the Queen
Anne's county delegation.

Mr. Smith presented a memorial from Reverdy Johnson,
William George Brown and over one thousand other citizens
of Baltimore, deprecating the passage of any severe measures
towards the colored population;

Referred to the committee on Colored Population.

Mr. Dennis, of Worcester, presented a petition from Wil-
liam J. Leonard, George Walston and 40 others, praying
for a law to prohibit shooting foxes in Worcester county;

Referred to the Worcester county delegation.

Mr. Beall presented a petition from forty-two citizens of
Allegany county, asking that the premium on wild cat and
fox scalps in said county be increased;

Referred to the Allegany county delegation.

Mr. Johnson presented a petition from sundry citizens of
Frederick county, remonstrating against the passage of any
law making all civil process before justices of the peace, re-
turnable before the justice where the defendant resides;

Referred to the committee on the Judiciary.
On motion of Mr. Miller,

Leave was granted the committee on Claims to introduce a
bill to compensate the Independent Grays of Baltimore city,
for services rendered at Harper's Ferry, during the late John
Brown raid.

Also, leave was granted the same committee to introduce
