474              JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 18,

SATURDAY, February 18, 1860.

The House met pursuant to adjournment, and was opened
with prayer by the Rev. Mr. Thrush.

Present at the call of the roll the following members :

Messrs. Kilbourn, Speaker, Basin, Medders, Welch, Mac-
kubin, Briscoe, Parran, Compton, Burgess, Ford, Worthing-
ton, Denison, of Baltimore county, Quinlan, Renshaw, Jones,
of Talbot, Chaplain, Dennis, of Somerset, Long, Lawson,
Keene, Holland, Maxwell, Miller, Bryan, Jones, of Prince
George's, Legg, Starkey, Jacobs, Landing, Dennis, of Wor-
cester, Kessler, Claggett, Johnson, Salmon, Wilson, of Har-
ford, McCoy, Straughn, Goldsborough, Krafft, Booze, Seth,
McAllister, Smith, Turner, of Baltimore city, Denison, of
Baltimore city, Eakle, Freaner, Stake, Griffith, Harding, Gor-
don, Barnard, Beall, McCleary, Gorsuch and Brown.

The proceedings of yesterday were read.

Mr. Freaner presented a petition from Jacob H. Huyett
and other citizens of Washington county, praying that our
woollen manufacturers may be protected from competition by

pedlars from other States, by imposing a license on said ped-
lars;

Referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Medders presented a petition from sundry citizens of
Kent county, providing for the inspection of grain in the city
of Baltimore;

Referred to the committee on Inspections.

Mr. Ford presented a petition from thirty-two citizens of
Baltimore city, against a greater fare than three cents on pas-
senger railways;

Referred to the committee on Corporations.

Mr. Compton presented a memorial from Generals G. H.
Stewart, C. C. Egerton and John W. Watkins, praying for
the repeal of the charter of the Baltimore City Guards, and
asking that the Legislature will pass no more charters of a
similar character;

Also, a series of resolutions, adopted at a meeting of the
officers of the first light division, Maryland volunteers, Feb-
ruary 9th, 1860;
