On motion of Mr. Berry,

Leave was granted the committee on Claims to introduce ft
bill to compensate Milton Whitney, for the trial of the case
of Thomas W. Watkins, in the Court of Appeals, by ap-
pointment of the Governor.

On motion of Mr. Berry,

Leave was granted the committee on Claims to introduce a
bill to compensate Milton Whitney for the trial of William
G. Ford, in the Court of Appeals, by appointment of the
Governor.

Mr. Medders presented the petition of James Gafford, of
Queen Anne's county, praying for a pension ;

Which was referred to the committee on Pensions.
On motion of Mr. Turner, of Howard county,

Leave was granted the Howard county delegation to intro-
duce a bill for the more speedy collection of taxes in Howard
county.

Mr. Dennis presented a petition on the free negro popu-
lation ;

Which was referred to the committee on Colored Popula-
tion.

Mr. McAllister presented a petition from Richard France,
for monies due from the State of Maryland ;

Which was referred to the committee on Claims.

On motion of Mr. Linthicum,

Leave was granted the committee on Colored Population
to report a bill to sell free negroes for debt, under certain
circumstances.                                                         

On motion of Mr. Freaner,

Leave was granted the committee on Colored Population,
to introduce a bill to suppress the circulation of incendiary
documents in this State.

On motion of Mr. Bayless,

Leave was granted the Harford county delegation, to report
a bill to amend and supplemental to the act entitled an act,
to establish public schools in Harford county, passed 1850,
chapter 161.
