334 Journal of proceedings [Feb. 8,

Mr. Dennis, of Worcester, from a select committee, re-
ported a bill entitled, an act entitled, a further supplement to
the act of December session, 1840, chapter 215, changing the
commissioners appointed by the act of 1858, chapter 178, for
cleaning out Pocomoke river;

Which was read the first time.

Also, a bill entitled, an act to amend the 4th article of the
code of public local laws, by inserting therein the following
sections relating to mortgages;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Mackubin, from the committee of Claims, reported
favorably on the bill entitled, an act to compensate Nicholas
Brewer, of John, for legal services rendered the State in the
Court of Appeals, under the appointment of the Governor;

Also, on the bill entitled, an act to refund to the legatees
of Thomas L. Offutt the money paid by Turner Wooten, ad-
ministrator of Raid Thomas L. Offutt, on the forfeited recog-
nizance of Thomas L. Offutt:

Mr. Goldsborough, from the committee on Corporations,
reported favorably on Senate bill entitled, an act to incor-
porate the Corn Exchange Building's company in the city of
Baltimore;

Which were severally read the first time.

Mr. Gordon, from the Judiciary committee, reported a bill
entitled, an act to amend the 1st and 2d sections of the 59th
article of the code of public general laws relating to mar-
riage;

Which was read the first time.

Also, a bill entitled, an act granting the leave of the Le-
gislature to the bequest made by Hanson Penn, late of Prince
George's county, deceased, to Benjamin O. Lounds, in trust,
as declared in his last will and testament;

Which was read the first time.
On motion of Mr. Mackubin,

The committee on Claims were discharged from the consid-
eration of the petition of William Harwood, former State
Librarian, and the same referred to committee on the Judi-
ciary.

Mr. Miller, chairman of the joint committee on the House
of Refuge, made a report;

Which was read.
