Which was adopted.

Mr. Welch offered the following order:

Ordered, That the Speaker he authorized to have the lob-
bies cushioned, and that the centre one be reserved exclusively
for ladies.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Morgan offered the following order :

Ordered, That a committee of five be appointed to examine
the condition of the State Tobacco Warehouses and State
Wharves, and report to this House.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Eakle presented a petition signed by 32 citizens of
District No. 1, Washington county, praying to be separated
from No. 1, and added to No. 8 District of said county.

Which was referred to the Washington county delegation.

Mr. Goldsborough offered the following message:

By the House of Delegates,

January 9, 1860.
Gentlemen of the Senate :

We propose with the concurrence of your Honorable Body,
the appointment of a joint select committee to consist of three
members of each House on the Maryland Penitentiary, to
proceed to Baltimore, and make a thorough examination of
the entire affairs and condition of the same, and that they
have full power to send for persons and papers, and examine
witnesses under oath, and make a report to this House. We
have appointed Messrs. Goldsborough, Maxwell and Deni-
son, of Baltimore city, as members of said committee on the
part of the House.

Chief Clerk.
Which was adopted.

Mr. Parran presented the petition of citizens of Calvert
county, asking for a change in the lines of School District
No. 3, in the second Election District of said county;

Which was read, and referred to the Calvert county dele-
