The said bill was then read a second time.
Also, the bill entitled, an act to amend the 4th article of
the code of public local laws, by amending the 33d section of
said article, relating to the police and general powers of the
mayor and city council of Baltimore, and repealing the 774th,
775th, 776th and 777th sections of said article relating to the
police of said city, and the power of the mayor and city
council to establish and regulate the same, and inserting in
lieu of the sections so repealed, the following sections, for the
purpose of providing a permanent police for the city of Balti-
more;
Said bill being upon its second reading,
Mr. Krafft proposed the following amendment:
Insert after the word "commissioners," in the third line of
the third section, the words "who shall be appointed by the
Governor of the State of Maryland.''
