On motion of Mr. McCoy,

Leave was granted the committee on Ways and Means to
introduce a bill entitled, an act to amend the 6th section of
article 59 of the code of public general laws, relating to mar-
riage licenses.

Mr. Mackubin offered the following:

Ordered, That the committee on Claims be and they are
hereby directed to allow to the witnesses summoned by the
committee on Elections such amount for mileage and per
diem as, in their opinion, may be proper.

Mr. Gordon proposed the following substitute:

Ordered, That each witness be allowed three dollars a day
and traveling expenses, for his attendance;

Which was adopted.                                 

On motion of Mr. Mackubin,                                

The rules were suspended, and

The House took up for consideration, the bill entitled, an
act to compensate Otho Scott and Hiram McCullough, for
services rendered as codifiers under the acts of January ses-
sion, 1852 and 1853 ;

Said bill being upon its second reading,

Mr. Denison, of Baltimore city, moved to lay the bill on
the table.

Which was decided in the negative.

Mr. Harding moved to make it the order of the clay for
Thursday week ;
