230             JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Jan. 31,

Mr. Mackubin, from the committee on Claims, reported fa-
vorably on the bill entitled, an act to compensate James T.
Briscoe, for the trial of the case of William Billingsley and
others, vs. the State of Maryland, in the Court of Appeals,
by appointment of the Governor;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Maxwell, from the committee on Corporations, report-
ed favorably on the bill entitled, an act to alter and amend
7th section, 8th article, chapter 88, of the code of public local
laws, incorporating the Howard Savings' Bank of Baltimore;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Maxwell, from the committee on Corporations, report-
ed favorably on the bill entitled, an act to confirm the charter
of Saint Anthony's Orphan Asylum, of Baltimore city, in-
corporated on the 10th day of April, 1858, under the general
laws of Maryland, and to enlarge the powers of said corpora-
tion;

Which was read the first time.
Mr. Burgess offered the following:                             

Ordered, That the standing committee on the Executive
Contingent Fund be required to examine likewise the vouchers
for the expenditure of the fund appropriated at last session
for repairs on executive mansion, and report thereon:

Which was adopted.                            

Mr. Maxwell, from the committee on Corporations, report-
ed favorably on the bill entitled, an act to continue the char-
ter of the Pipe Creek Benevolent Society;

Which was read the first time.

Also, on the bill entitled, an act to incorporate the Cono-
wingo and Bel Air Turnpike company;

Also, on the bill entitled, an act to incorporate the Minors'
Savings' Bank of Baltimore;

Which were severally read the second time.
The Speaker laid before the House the following communi-
cation:

The House of Delegates of Maryland:

In compliance with an order of your honorable body,
passed January, 1860, I herewith transmit the information
asked for, in reference to the number of indictments found
under the act of 1858, chapter 414, and the disposition made
