Turner of Baltimore city, Denison, of Baltimore city, Eakle,
Brining, Freaner, Stake, Griffith, Barnard, Beall, McCleary,
Roop and Brown.

The proceedings of yesterday were read,                

Mr. Roop offered the following :

Ordered, That it be entered on the journal of this House,
that Mr. Gorsuch's absence for several days past, has been
and still is in consequence of illness in his family.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Ford presented a petition of J. J. Stewart, F. J.
Wheeler, and others, asking relief and protection for families
against intemperate individuals, &c;

Referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. Brown presented a petition for a bridge over the
Patapsco river at Woodstock ;

Referred to the Baltimore and Howard county delegations.

Mr. Naill presented a petition of R. L. Howell, of Queen
Anne's county, in relation to the variation of the surveyor's
compass;

Referred to Messrs. Naill, Legg, Stake, Bayless and
Linthicum.

Mr. Goldsborough presented a petition praying the passage
of a law to close a road therein named ;

Also, a petition to incorporate the town of Bridgetown,
Caroline county ;

Which were referred to the Caroline county delegation.

Mr. Ford offered the following :

Ordered, That the Speaker appoint an assistant clerk to
the House of Delegates.

Which was adopted.

On motion of Mr. McCleary,                                     

Leave was granted the committee on Claims to report a bill

to indemnify Joseph Sprigg, of Allegany county, for the loss

of his negro man George, who was murdered by a mob at

Williamsport, Maryland.

Mr. Mills presented a petition from sundry citizens of Man-
chester, praying for an act of incorporation for the Manches-
ter Young Men's Library Association ;

Referred to the committee on Corporations.

Mr. Maxwell presented a petition of A. Rittenhouse and
others, for the incorporation of the village of Rising Sun, in
Cecil county, Maryland ;

Referred to the committee on Corporations.

On motion Mr. Goldsborough,                             

Leave was granted the committee on Corporations to report
