214               JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Jan. 30,

MONDAY, January 30th, 1860.

The House met pursuant to adjournment, and was opened
with prayer by the Rev. Father Duffy.

Present at the call of the roll the following members :

Messrs. Kilbourn, Speaker, Rasin, Medders, Mackubin, Bris-
coe, Parran, Compton, Burgess, Ford, Chaplain, Dennis, of
Som., Long, Stanford, Lawson, Linthicum, Keene, Holland,
Maxwell, Miller, Bryan, Jones, of Prince George's, Legg,
Starkey, Jacobs, Landing, Dennis, of Worcester, Kessler,
Claggett, Johnson, Naill, Bayless, Straughn, Krafft, Seth,
Berry, Crowley, McAllister, Smith, Turner, of Baltimore
city, Denison, of Baltimore city, Eakle, Freaner, Stake,
Griffith, Harding, Gordon, Barnard, Beall, Roop, Mills,
and Brown.

The proceedings of Saturday were read.

The Speaker presented a memorial from the Hon. T. Yates
Walsh, in relation to certain suits entered against him as one
of the bondsmen of N. Hickman, late register of wills of
Baltimore city.

Mr. Miller offered the following :

Ordered, That the Speaker appoint a Chief Clerk to act
during the absence of Milton Y. Kidd;

Whereupon, the Speaker appointed Charles P. Montague,
of Baltimore city, who was qualified and proceeded to the
discharge of the duties of the office.

Mr. Rasin presented a memorial from sundry citizens of
Baltimore city, praying that their rights as fishermen, at the
mouth of the Sassafras river, may not be interfered with;

Referred to the special committee on Oysters.

Mr. McAllister presented a petition from Rev. James
Dolan and others, for an act of incorporation for the Orphans'
Home, of Baltimore city;

Referred to the committee on Corporations.                   

Mr. Dennis, of Somerset, presented a petition of Levin
Woolford, for certain relief therein named;

Referred to the committee on Claims.
