vorably on the Senate bill entitled, an act to compensate
Charles W. Webster, for professional services rendered under
the appointment of the Governor, in the Court of Appeals, in
the case of Josiah Parrish vs. the State of Maryland;

Also, on the bill entitled, an act to refund to Elizabeth A.
Watson forty-three dollars and sixty-four cents, being the
amount overpaid the State by her for State taxes;

Which were severally read the second time.

Mr. Mills, from a select committee, reported favorably on
the bill entitled, an act to incorporate the Westminster Sav-
ing's Institution;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Mackubin, from a select committee, reported favora-
bly on the bill entitled, an act making valid two indentures
made between J. B. Nichols and Horatio Ridout, of the one
part, and George Hollins, of the other part;

Also, an act making valid an indenture between J. B.
Nichols and Horatio Ridout of the one part, and Addison
Johnson of the other part;

Which were severally read the first time.

Mr. Bayless, from a select committee, reported favorably on
the bill entitled, an act to amend the twelfth article of the
code of public local laws, by amending the section thereof
which authorises the levy of tax for the support of schools,
by increasing the rate of said tax, and by amending the
108th section thereof, which gives to the school commission-
ers power to procure a house for the use of schools, by giving
them the power to sell houses and lots purchased for that
purpose;                                                                         

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Kessler, from a select committee, reported favorably
on the bill entitled, an act authorising the Treasurer of the
State, upon the warrant of the Comptroller, to pay to Cap-
tain John T. Sinn a sum of money therein mentioned, for
services rendered by the United Guards, by order of the Gov-
ernor;

Which was read the first time, and by special order the
second and third time, and passed by yeas and nays as fol-
low :
