The committee was increased to five, and Messrs. Salmon
and Dennis, of Somerset, appointed.

Mr. Gordon presented a memorial from the Susquehanna
and Tide Water Canal Companies, praying the statement of
an account between the State and them for the interest in ar-
rears, &c;

Referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Miller presented a petition from R. L. Thomas and
other citizens of Cecil county, in relation to the repeal of the
tax on mortgages;

Referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Gordon presented a petition from Charles H. McBlair
and Margaret S. Duncan;

Referred to the Allegany county delegation.

Mr. Welch presented a petition from citizens of Maryland,
in relation to protection of the oyster trade;

Referred to the select committee on Fish and Oysters.

Mr. Freaner presented the memorial of Bradley T. John-
son, in relation to certain citizens of Maryland, indicted in
Pennsylvania, for kidnapping certain fugitive slaves, which
had been legally taken and restored to their owners; which

On motion of Mr. Freaner,

Was referred to a select committee of five, consisting of
Messrs Freaner, Compton, Johnson, Jacobs, and Gorsuch,

Mr. Mackubin presented a petition of Montgomery Johns,
executor of John Johns, deceased, asking that a tax therein
named be refunded ;

Referred to the committee on Claims.

Mr. Quinlan presented a petition of Dennis Carter, and
116 other citizens of the 11th district of Baltimore county,
asking the polls in said district to be changed ;

Referred to the Baltimore county delegation.

Mr. Harding presented a petition of sundry citizens of
Montgomery county, relating to free negroes ;

Referred to the committee on Colored Population.
