Referred to the committee on Education.

Mr. McCoy presented a petition from Hugh Jones and
others, to allow the tax payers of Harford county, to pay
their taxes to a commissioner or a treasurer;

Referred to the Harford county delegation.                     

Mr. Medders presented a petition from James Hurtt, An-
drew Woodall, and 170 other citizens of Kent county, pray-
ing the passage of an act, to prevent the staking of gill
nets in the head waters of the Chesapeake bay;

Referred to the special committee on Oysters.

The Speaker laid before the House the memorial of the
Board of Directors of the Maryland Institution for the In-
struction of the Blind.

On motion of Mr. Denison, of Baltimore city,

Leave was granted the committee on Ways and Means to
introduce a bill providing for the repayment of money to
holders of unused stamps, issued under the act of March 10,
1845.

On motion of Mr. Rasin,

Leave was granted the Kent county delegation to intro-
duce a bill to authorise and require the clerk of the Circuit
court for Kent county to procure a suitable book, and tran-
scribe therein the indexes in liber J. N. G., one of the chattel
records of Kent county.

Mr. Long offered the following:

Ordered, That the Librarian furnish to the clerk of each
of the Circuit courts in the several counties of this State, and
to the clerks of the Circuit, Superior, Common Pleas and
Criminal courts of Baltimore city, respectively, a copy of the
code of public laws and public local laws.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Long offered the following :

Ordered, That so much of the Governor's Message as re-
lates to the commission to procure certain documents relating
to the history of the State, the condition of the State records
and archives, and the necessity and propriety of their future
preservation and publication, be referred to a special commit-
tee of three;

Which was adopted, and Messrs. Long, Dennis, of Som-
erset, and Briscoe constituted said committee.
