tion of sundry citizens of Cecil county, for a law to improve
the condition of the free colored population of this State, and
to make them more useful;

Which was referred to the committee on Colored Popu-
lation.

On motion of Mr. Gordon,

Leave was granted the Allegany county delegation to
introduce a bill to authorise the Surveyor of Allegany county,
to copy and preserve the original certificates of survey of said
county.

Mr. Worthington, from the committee on Education, re-
ported favorably upon the bill entitled, an act for the endow-
ment of Baltimore Female College ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Mackubin, from the committee on Claims, reported
favorably on the following bills :

The bill entitled, an act appropriating a sum of money for
the payment of the claims of W. L. Seabrook, Thomas J.
Wilson, John Cox, J. Wesley White, Thomas Godey, Col-
lins, Heath and others ;

The bill entitled, an act appropriating a sum of money for
the payment of the claims of Magruder & Brother, and others;

The bill entitled, an act appropriating a sum of maney to
J. Hopkins Tarr, late State's Attorney for Caroline county,
for fees due him by the State ;

The bill entitled, an act to refund to Thomas Russell and
Thomas Y. Canby, an overpayment of tax on executors com-
missions ;

The bill entitled, an act to refund to B. F. Anderson,
executor of William Anderson, deceased, money erroneously
paid by him into the treasury of the State ;

The bill entitled, an act to refund to Levin West, of Fre-
derick county, State taxes erroneously paid to the collector of
taxes in said county ;

Which were severally read the first time.

Mr. Morgan, from a select committee, reported a bill enti-
tled, an act to authorise William Briscoe, J. C. Milburn, H.
Jones and others, Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church
in St. Mary's county, to purchase and hold a tract of land
for a parsonage ;

Which was read the first time.
