A call of the House was ordered,

During the call of the House,
Mr. Hall offered the following

REPORT:

Of the committee appointed to investigate the affairs of St.
John's College.

The Committee have to express their regret that the condition
of the public business was such, as to prevent them from enter-
ing upon their duties, until the session was so far advanced as to
allow time only for a single visit to the College, during which,
they availed themselves of the attention of a committee of the
trustees appointed for the purpose, and of the Faculty, in in-
specting the different buildings, Professors rooms, library, appa-
ratus, dormitory, and other apartments. For the condition of the
College as to its finances, number of the students and the con-
duct of the board of trustees in the late reorganization, they refer
to the accompanying statement, furnished by the committee of
the board. As before observed, we have not had time to make
any further examination than will appear by those answers to in-
terrogations propounded through the committee to the board of
trustees. It is due however, to them, to say that from the time
of the appointment of this committee, the trustees and Professors
have manifested a great anxiety to have all the matters of com-
plaint against the College, fully investigated.

It is much to be desired that this institution should be placed
