70                  JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS |Jan. 17,

recting the printing of all the documents accompanying the Gov-

ernor's Message;                                                             

Determined in the negative.

On motion of Mr. Toadvine,

Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal of this House,

that Messrs. Daniel, Lester, Wickes, Hall and Clark, have been

absent on the 15th and 16th instant, as a committee to visit and

investigate the Maryland Penitentiary, House of Refuge &c., of

this State.           

On motion of Lester,                                                               

Leave has been granted to introduce a bill to regulate the grant-
ing of Licenses for the sale of intoxicating liquors,

Read and referred to a special committee of five.
On motion of Mr. Tower,                                             

Leave was granted to committee on judiciary to bring in a Bill
to make valid a Deed from the Llangollen Mining Company to
George W. Kildow.                         

On motion of Mr. Brengle,

Ordered, That the committee of ways and means be author-

ized to examine the condition of the Treasurer's Office.             

On motion of Mr. Neff,                                                         

Leave was granted to the Anne Arundel Delegation to intro-

duce a Bill entitled, "an act to allow the judges of the Orphan's

Court in Anne Arundel county mileage.

Which was referred to Anne Arundel County Delegation.

On motion of Mr. Smith, of Carroll,
Leave was granted the committee on the judiciary to report a
bill making all judgments rendered by Justices of the Peace, liens
on Real Estate, upon certain conditions to be therein expressed.

On motion of Mr. Parker,

Leave was granted to the Worcester county Delegation to bring
in a bill entitled, an act to permit persons in Worcester county, to
whom free negro or mulatto apprentices are bound, to hire them
out, subject, however, to the approval of the Orphan's Court of
said county.                                                               

Mr. Dowell offered the following order;

Ordered, That the Treasurer of the State furnish this House
at an early day as possible, the amount of Salary paid the State
Chemist; the amount paid his Assistant; the amount paid for his
Laboratory; the amount paid for printing the reports of said
Chemist, &c. since the passage of the act of December Session
1847, chapter 249.
