Which was rejected.

morning at 10 o'clock,

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following message:
By the Senate,

                March 5th, 1856.

Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :

We have received a communication from the gentlemen ap-
pointed to codify the laws, suggesting that the only means by
which their work can be examined is by a committee in the re-
cess, believing that a proper examination of such a work could
not be made during any of the regular sessions of the legisla-
ture, and being anxious to have the code completed according to
the requirements of the Constitution, we propose the appointment
of a Joint Committee to consider the subject. We have appointed
on the part of the Senate Messrs. Webster, Schley, and Wallace.

By Order,

           C. HARWOOD, Secretary.

Mr. Partridge offered the following message:

          By the House of Delegate,

March 5th 1856.

Gentlemen of the Senate:

We have received the message from your Honorable Body,
