nal Act;

On motion of Mr. Kennedy,                         

The rules were suspended to allow him to present the memo-
rial of H. Kellogg, proposing to purchase of the interest of the
State in the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal;                         

Also submitted the following message:

By the House of Delegates,

February 28th, 1856.
Gentlemen of the Senate:                             

We propose with your concurrence to appoint a joint commit-
tee to hear and consider and report upon a proposition which has
been presented to this House for the sale and purchase of the in-
terest held by the State of Maryland in the Chesapeake and Ohio
Canal Company                                                           

We have appointed on the part of this House Messrs. Brengle,
Kennedy, Merrick, Toadvine and Roberts to join such gentlemen
as may be appointed by your Honorable Body.             

                             Thomas H., Kent, of Jos., Clerk.

A bill entitled, an act authorizing the commissioners appointed
under the act of 1820, chapter 191, to compel the purchasers at
the sales to comply with the terras of sale, or in case of refusal
or neglect, to resell the property and enforce payment for the dif-
ference;

Was read the second time.                                                   

A bill entitled, an to extend the equitable powers of the circuit
courts in the different judicial districts in this State;

Was read the second time.

A bill entitled, an act to appropriate a sum of money to pay
Walter W. W. Bowie, of Prince George's county, for legal ser-
vices rendered the State of Maryland vs. B. J. Gardner in the cir-

cuit court for Prince George's county;              

             

Was read the second time.                   

A bill entitled, an act to make valid and amend articles of in-
corporation of the Boys' School of St. Paul's Parish in the city of
Baltimore, incorporated under the act of 1846, chapter 303, enti-
tled, an act to authorize incorporation in certain cases;

Was read the second time, and
