366            JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 18,

Mr. Tower, from a select committee, reported favorably upon

the Senate bill entitled, an act to recognise the Preston Coal and

Iron Company as a corporation, and authorising it to exercise

the powers and privileges of a corporation within the State of

Maryland, for mining and manufacturing purposes.

Mr. Askew, from a select committee, reported a bill entitled,

an act to incorporate the American Bank;

Which was read the first time, and referred to the committee

on corporations.                        

Mr. Kennedy, from the Committee on Ways and Means, re-
ported a bill entitled, an act to raise additional revenue to pay
the debts of the State, by increasing the rates of licenses to or-
dinary keepers and traders;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Brengle from the Committee on Ways and Means reported
a bill entitled, an act to reduce taxes heretofore imposed by au-
thority of this State;                                                

Which was read the first time.                                        

Mr. Frazier from the Committee on Claims reported a bill en-
titled, an act for the payment of legal fees due to Jervis Spencer
for services rendered to the State;                           

Which was read the first time.                           

Mr. Kildow from a Select Committee reported a bill entitled,
an act to make valid a deed from the Llangollen Mining Com-
pany to Wm. M. Owens.

Also a bill entitled, a bill entitled an act to make valid a deed
from the Llangollen Mining Company to Michael Halfpenny.

Mr. Stone from the Committee on Claims reported favorably
upon a bill entitled, an act to direct the payment of one-half the
arrears of pension due by this State to the late John H. Stone of
the revolutionary army at the time of his death to Zephemiah H.
Turner, one of the heirs of said Stone, and the person legally en-
titled to receive the same.                    

On motion of Mr. Daniel,
The rules were suspended to allow him to offer the following

Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal of this House
that Mr. Daniel who voted for Dr. Dennis Claude for treasurer of
this State, on Friday, the 15th inst., was absent from the House,
and did not therefore respond to his name when called.
