                            Feb. 14th, 1856.

Gentlemen of the Senate,           

We have received the message of your Honorable Body, pro-
posing to postpone until the 27th inst. the election of United
States Senator in place of Hon. Thomas G. Pratt, which it was
agreed should take place to-day at noon, and we respectfully de-
cline to concur in such proposed postponement.             

In pursuance of the arrangement jointly made on the 6th inst.,
to proceed to such election on this day at noon, we have nominat-
ed on the part of the House, of Delegates,--------------------

and we have appointed Messrs. Goldsborough and Plowden
to join such gentlemen as may be named by your Hon-
orable Body to count the ballots and announce the result.
