A bill entitled, an act to increase the allowance of the Sheriff
of Talbot county, for keeping and boarding in the jail of said
county, such prisoners as may be committed for breaches of the
peace, or for criminal offences, or otherwise, and for keeping and
boarding any runaway negro or negro slave committed to the
jail of said county, by any citizen of this State,

Was read the second time.                               

                                                                                                                       

Mr. Clark submitted the following additional section :

"Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect from
and after the date of its passage;"

Which was assented to.                        

The said bill was then ordered to be engrossed for a third

reading.                        

A bill entitled, an act to enable William Crane and others, trus-
tees of the "Saratoga Street African Baptist Church," in Balti-
more city, to execute a deed of certain property therein men-
tioned.
Was read the second time.
Mr. Partridge submitted the following amendment:

1st section, 2nd line, after the word "that," insert these words,

"from and alter the passage of this act;"

Which was assented to.         

The said bill was then ordered to be engrossed for a third
reading.                                                 

On motion of Mr. Kennedy,           

The rules were suspended to enable him to present a petition
from Patrick Kennedy, praying the passage of a law to prohibit
the circulation of foreign bank notes of a less denomination than
twenty dollars;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Currency.

A bill entitled, an act to compensate James S. Franklin, for the
trial of certain cases in the Court of Appeals, as counsel on the
part of the State, by appointment of the Governor,

Was read the second time.

A bill entitled, an act to provide for the appointment of the
trustees for the poor, by the county commissioners for Frederick
county, for the appointment of keeper of the poor-house, by the
trustees for the poor, and to specify their powers and duties,
