The above are some of the works procured by this means
Any lawyer knows that they are of the highest value, and form a
most desirable addition to our Library. The State's Reporter
furnishes the State Library with two hundred copies of the Mary-
land Reports. The State thus secures to its officer the sale of
that number of volumes and payment therefor; and takes the risk
itself of disposing of the volumes which may remain over the num-
ber required for its offices. It does this, it is presumed, because
it is of interest to the State, in the work to be performed for its
use, to secure the service of a respectable member of the legal
profession by paying him adequately therefor. Almost from the
