The said bill was then sent to the Senate.
On motion of Mr. Harris,

The rules were suspended to enable him to present a petition,
of E. L. Spalding and other citizens of St. Mary's county pray-
ing amendments to the act regulating license to hawkers and ped-
lars.                                                                                     


Which was referred to the Committee on Finance.

A bill entitled, an act to authorize William M. Kemp, Emma
A. Kemp, and Lizette F. Amelung to emancipate certain slaves
with permission to said slaves when emancipated to remain in
this State;


Mr. Valiant moved to strike out the enacting clause.

Which was determined in the negative.               

                                   

On motion of Mr. Carper,              

The said bill was referred to the Committee on colored popu-
lation.

A bill entitled, an act for the relief of Mahala Jones a free ne-
gro woman of Washington city, District of Columbia, and her chil-
dren Bernard Jones and Ella Jones also of the District of Co-

lumbia.

         

On motion of Mr. Valiant,                       

The said bill was made the order of the day for Tuesday, the
12th instant.

A bill entitled an act to prevent the selling of any article or
articles of merchandise, and the opening of any place of business
in the city of Baltimore on Sunday.                        

Mr. Kildow offered the following amendment:               

                                       

Section 1st. Strike out the words, "not less than twenty" and
insert the word "nor."                                             

Amendment assented to.                                

Also offered the following amendment: 8th line first section,
strike out the word "less" and insert more," and also strike out
the words "nor more than one hundred."                       

Which was determined in the negative.                     

Mr. Partridge offered the following amendment:
