THURSDAY, February 7th, 1856.

The House met. Present at the call of the roll the following
members:                         

Messrs. Speaker, Sudler, Neff, Waters, Wilson, of Cal-
vert, Stone, Chilcoat, Rankin, Cullings, Heath, Roberts,
Daniel, Dail, Frazier, Thomas, Stubbs, Miller, Brooke, Bowie,
Bowling, Rolph, Parker, Smith, of Worcester, Davis, Carper,
Grove, Duvall, Jarrett, Silver, Stack, Partridge, Abbott, Valiant,
Lester, Hugg, Askew, Harrington, Witmer, Reichard, Lough-
ridge, Hall, Tower, Kildow; Frey, Brown, Smith, of Carroll,
Burlington, Stewart, Rowles.                               

The proceedings of yesterday were read.                   

Mr. Carper presented a memorial of George Brown and others,
Trustees for the Holders of Bonds of the Chesapeake and Ohio
Canal Company, issued under the provisions of the Act to pro-
vide for the completion of the canal to Cumberland;

Which was referred to the committee on Internal Improve-
ments;                                                      

Mr. Dail presented a petition from citizens of Dorchester county
praying the Legislature for the passage of a law authorising the
county commissioners to levy a sum of money to pay for the com-
pletion of the bridge over Slaughter creek in said county,

Which was referred to the Dorchester county delegation.

Also a petition from citizens of Dorchester county praying the
passage of a law to regulate the compensation of the State's At-
torney in Dorchester county;                           

Which was referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

                                                                                                                                                                     

Mr. Sudler presented a petition of 41 citizens of Kent county
asking that the law regulating the granting of licenses in said
county, may not be disturbed;

Which was referred to the committee on Colored Population.

Also presented a memorial in regard to free negroes and slaves
in Kent county;                                                           

Which was referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Also presented a petition signed by sundry citizens of said
county for a special police force;                                   

Which was referred to the committee on Colored Population.

Mr. Cullings presented a memorial from Andrew B. Cross pray-
ing the legislature to pass an act for the protection of young
women in the convents of the State.
