The House then proceeded to the order of the day, being the
following resolution offered by Mr. Tower, on Saturday last:

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Ad-
jutant General be and is hereby directed to furnish to the order
of Captain. James M. Schley, of the Allegany guards fifty knap-
sacks on his giving satisfactory security for their safekeeping and

Which was read, adopted and sent to the Senate.

On motion of Mr. Smith of Carroll,

The following resolution offered by him on the 24th of Janua-
ary last was taken up;

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Gov-
ernor be, and is hereby authorised to furnish Dr. Ferdinand
Diffenback of the Manchester Independent Academy with sixty
muskets, or their equivalent in arms, provided ample security be
given for the safe return of the same whenever required by the
proper authorities;                                                 

Which was read, adopted and sent to the Senate.

A bill entitled, an act to change the commencement of the Sep-
tember term of the Court of Howard county;

Was read the second time.

A bill entitled, an act to change the name of Edward Marion
Dant of Prince George's county to Edward Marion Clements;

Was read the second time.

A bill entitled, an act to appropriate a sum of money to Richard
B. Carmichael, Grafton L. Dulaney and D. C.. H. Emory for their
services as arbitrators under the act of December session 1846,
chapter 347, entitled, a supplement to an act for the relief of
Passmore McCullough;

Was read the second time.

A bill entitled, an act to authorise William T. G. Polk, admin-
trators of Arnold Cottman, free negro, to execute a deed of man-
umission for certain slaves therein mentioned;                 

Was read the second time.

A bill entitled, an act to authorise the city of Cumberland,
mayor and councilmen to become a purchaser and share holder
of the capital stock of the Pittsburgh and Connellsville Railroad
Company, to issue bonds in payment of said stock, and to provide
by taxation for the liquidation of said bonds;
Was read the second time.
A bill entitled, an act to denominate the town of Cumberland
