fairs and condition of the, Farmers and Merchants Bank of
Greensborough, hive full power and authority to summon and ex-
amine on oath witnesses, and to call for all such papers and books
as they may think advisable, and also to have full power and au-
thority to employ the services of one of the committee clerks of
this House, or other suitable person for the purposes of recording
such testimony as may be produced;
Which was read and adopted.
Mr. Roberts moved that the House will not employ an additional
clerk, during the absence of the committee, to supply the vacancy
of the said committee clerk;
Which was lost.
Mr. Frazier Chairman of the Committee on Claims, reported
favorable a bill entitled, an act appropriating a sum of money for
the use of John Palmer;
Also, reported favorably a bill entitled, an act to authorize the
payment to George W. Nutwell a certain sum of money therein
mentioned, to compensate him for the loss of a negro, slain in an
attempt to secure his arrest.
Mr. Kennedy Chairman, of the Committee on Ways and Means,
reported favorable a bill entitled, an act to authorize the issue of
duplicate Certificates, Bonds or Coupons in the cases therein men-
tioned;
A bill entitled, an act to pay the Patuxent Company and Laurel
Machine Company of Prince George's county certain taxes erro-
niously paid by them.
Mr. Silver, Chairman of the Committee on Corporations, re-
ported favorable a bill entitled, an act to amend an act entitled,
an act to incorporate the Mutual Insurance Company of Balti-
more,
Mr. Brooke from the Select Committee reported favorably a bill
entitled, an act amendatory to an act passed December Session
1820, chapter 164, entitled an act incorporating into one the sev-
eral acts relating to constables' fees.
Mr. Stubbs, from a Special Committee, reported a bill entitled,
an act to change the name of "Ketch Corner," in Cecil county,
to the name of "Nickleville."
Mr. Scott, from a Special Committee, reported a bill entitled,
an act to order the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cecil county, to
record a deed therein named.
Mr. Daniel, from a Select Committee, reported a bill entitled,
an act to authorize the devise and bequest of Margaret A. Ward,
