Which was read and referred to Messrs. Clark, Roberts, and

Stack.                                                                           

Mr. Smith of Carroll, offered the following resolution,

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, that the Gov-
ernor be, and is hereby authorized to furnish to Dr. Ferdinand
Diffenback of the Manchester Independent Academy with sixty
muskets, or their equivalent in arms; provided, ample security be
given for the safe return of the same whenever required by the
proper authorities;                                                     

On motion of Mr. Stone,                  

It was laid over for one day.              

On motion or Mr. Askew,                      

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judiciary to introduce
a bill entitled, an act to carry into effect the requirements of the
thirty-ninth Section of the third article of the Constitution relating
to the exemption from execution of a reasonable amount of debt-
ors property.          
The Secretary of the Senate delivered,                   

A bill entitled, an act to increase the pay for labor on the pub-
lic roads in Talbot county,

Which was read the first time.

A bill entitled, an act to authorise the city of Cumberland,
Mayor and Councilmen to become a purchaser and shareholder
of the capital stock of the Pittsburg and Connellsville Rail Road
Company to issue bonds in payment of said stock, and to provide
by taxation for the liquidation of said bonds;

Which was read the first time and referred to Messrs. Wickes,
Tower, and Kildow.

A bill entitled, an act to appropriate a sum of money to pay
John C. Mullikin, Administrator of Owen Norfolk, late Clerk of
the Circuit Court for Prince George's county, certain fees due
said deceased from the State;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Claims.

A bill entitled, an act amendatory of an act passed January Ses-
sion 1854, Chapter 156, entitled, an act for the relief of the trus-
tees on the bonds of William Lyles of Thomas, former collector
or the third collection district of Prince George's county;

Which was read the first time and referred to the Committee on
Claims.                                                                                 


Mr. Daniel submitted the following order,

Ordered, That the Committee on Printing be instructed to in-
quire into the reasons why the Comptroller's report, and the re-
