By Mr. Johnson:

Senate Bill No. 53, entitled "An Act to repeal and re-enact,
with amendments, Section 124 of Article 14 of the Code of
Public Local Laws, title 'Howard County, ' sub-title 'Sheriff, ' as
said section was enacted by Chapter 258 of the Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland of 1908. "

Johnson, Holmead and Chesley. ]

JOINT RESOLUTION.
By Mr. Duvall:

WHEREAS,, A resolution was Introduced into the Senate of
Maryland at January session, 1914, known as No. 7, page 1760,
for the construction of a federal road connecting the Naval
Academy with the National Capitol at Washington, and the
representatives for Maryland in both Branches of Congress
were requested to use all honorable means to further the
project, but no action was taken in regard to the same; and

WHEREAS, In these days when the whole nation is more or
less wrought up over the state of "unpreparedness" of our
country for defense in case of war, it is of the utmost im-
portance that a grand highway or military and naval road
should be established between the Naval Academy and the
government at Washington as soon as possible under the
good roads system of Maryland; and

WHEREAS, The said State Roads Commission did adopt as
a part of its system an old-established road laid out in 1796
between the two cities, known as the "Old Stage road, " from
Annapolis across Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties
to the District of Columbia, but no work has ever been done
to further its construction, and the building of this State road
would be of incalculable benefit to the government of the
United States and of Maryland; and

WHEREAS,. There is already a State road from Annapolis to
Baltimore and one from Baltimore to the National Capital,
and this "Old Stage road" line, if built,, would complete the
triangle of the three cities; therefore, be it

Resolved, That the matter of the construction of this other
line of communication between the Naval Academy and the
Capitol at Washington is hereby referred to the Anne Arundel
and Prince George's delegations to bring in a Bill for the
building of the same; the charge for its construction not to
