REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES.

Mr. Archer, from Committee on Fish and Game, reported
favorably, with amendment,

SENATE BILL No. 118, BY MR. ARCHER.

SUBJECT: FISH AND FISHERIES—HEAD OF BAY.

Amendment proposed by Mr. Archer: "Strike out the whole
of Section 3 and substitute in lieu thereof the following:

'Sec. 3. No person, partnership or corporation shall at any
time be allowed to fish with purse or buck nets at any point
in the Chesapeake Bay or its tributaries above or north of the
line drawn easterly from Thomas Point on the Western Shore
to Kent Point on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. No person,
partnership of corporation shall fish with purse or buck nets
within the State of Maryland south of the line aforesaid with-
out first obtaining a license so to do from the Comptroller of
the Treasury, and then only from June 15 to November 1 of
each year, and the applicant shall pay the sum of fifty dol-
lars ($50) for each and every purse or buck net owned and
operated by him within said waters, whereupon the Comptrol-
ler shall issue to such applicant a license or licenses to oper-
ate such purse or buck nets, and all moneys arising from said
licenses shall be paid into the State Treasury to the credit of
the Conservation Fund; and any person, partnership or cor-
poration failing to procure such a license and violating the
provisions of this Act shall be deemed guilty of a misde-
meanor and on conviction shall be subject to the fines and
penalties imposed by Section 5 of this Article. It shall be
unlawful to use a purse or buck net with a mesh less than
three inches for the catching of food fish, or a purse or buck
net with a mesh less than two inches for the catching of men-
haden. Notwithstanding anything herein to the contrary, no
one shall be permitted to use purse or buck nets in any of
the tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay south of or below said
line from Thomas Point to Kent Point, excepting the Potomac
River. '" [Which was read and adopted. ] [Which favorable
report was adopted, which was read the second time and
ordered printed for a third reading. ]

SENATE BILL No. 556, BY. MR. ARCHER.

SUBJECT: WILD FOWL, BIRDS AND GAME.

Amendments proposed by Mr. Archer:

"In line 4 of Section 14 of the printed Bill, strike out the
words 'first day of March' and insert in lieu thereof the words
'fifteenth day of March. '"
