SENATE BILL No. 53, BY MR, JOHNSON.

SUBJECT: SHERIFF—HOWARD COUNTY.

Amendment proposed by Special Committee: "In Section
124, line 5, of the printed Bill, after the words 'Howard coun-
ty, ' strikeout the following words: 'except that from and after
the first day of December, 1917, the Sheriff of Howard county
shall receive an annual salary of twelve hundred dollars
($1, 200), payable quarterly, of three hundred dollars ($300)
each quarter, by the County Commissioners of Howard coun-
ty. " Said words occurring in lines 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. " [Which
was read and adopted. ] [Which favorable report was adopted,
which was read the second time and ordered printed for a
third reading. ]

At 8. 30 o'clock P. M., on motion of Mr. Cooper, the Senate
adjourned until Tuesday, February 15, at 12 o'clock noon.

PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, MEMORIALS AND
OTHER PAPERS.

Mr. Chesley submitted a petition from the Society of the
Ark and the Dove, protesting against changing the St. Mary's
