ing proportions: For the expenses of the State Board of Edu-
cation and its members in the discharge of their duties, the
sum of three thousand five hundred dollars; for the expenses
of the State Department of Education, including salaries of
the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, other profes-
sional and clerical assistants, publications, traveling and
office expenses, the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars; for
colored industrial work as provided by law, the sum of twen-
ty-seven thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be nec-
essary; for approved high schools as provided by law, the sum
of one hundred and forty thousand dollars, or so much thereof
as may be necessary; for retired teachers, as provided by law,
the sum of thirty-four thousand dollars, or so much thereof
as may be necessary; for the maintenance of the Maryland
State Normal School, including the expenses of a summer ses-
sion of six weeks, the sum of sixty thousand dollars; for the
maintenance of State Normal School No. 2, at Frostburg, the
sum of ten thousand dollars; for. the maintenance of State
Normal School No. 3, for colored students, near Bowie, the
sum of ten thousand dollars; for free text-books and the ma-
terials of instruction, the sum of two hundred thousand dol-
lars; for printing the annual report of the operations of the
public schools, on the order of the Governor, the sum of two
thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary;
for one-half of the salaries of superintendents, supervisors and
attendance officers in- the several counties, and the City of
Baltimore, as provided by law, the sum of sixty thousand
dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary.
'After the foregoing amounts, or so much thereof as may be
necessary, are paid, the remainder of the said sum of one
million seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars, shall be
distributed, according to law, to the several counties and the
City of Baltimore; provided the Treasurer shall not be re-
quired to pay any of the foregoing amounts other than quar-
terly, except in his own discretion.
To the Maryland Agricultural College, the sum of forty
thousand dollars, for maintenance of the college proper; five
thousand dollars for the maintenance of the Eastern Branch
at Princess Anne; twenty-five thousand dollars for the main-
tenance of the Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station;
five thousand dollars for the maintenance of the Sub-Station
of the Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station at Ridgely;
for maintenance of extension and demonstration work in agri-
culture and home economics, and to provide for administra-
tive work, printing and distributing publications, boys' and
