AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 72 (a) of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Allegany County (1955 Edition,
being Article 1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland),
title "Allegany County", sub-title "County Commissioners", as said
section was last amended by Chapter 143 of the Acts of 1959,
amending the local laws of Allegany County with respect to certain
contracts for public work or improvements or for the purchase of
supplies and equipment, with particular respect to the require-
ments for obtaining bids therefor.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 72 (a) of the Code of Public Local Laws of Allegany
County (1955 Edition, being Article 1 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), title "Allegany County", sub-title "County Com-
missioners", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:
72.
(a) In contracting for any necessary public work or improvement
or for the purchase of supplies and equipment needed at any time
by the several departments of the County, the County Commissioners
of Allegany County may forthwith enter into contracts for said
public work or improvement and may forthwith purchase said sup-
plies and equipment on an order passed by the said County Commis-
sioners provided that the cost of said public work or improvement
or the purchase price of said supplies and equipment shall not ex-
ceed [One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00)] Fifteen Hundred Dollars
($1,500.00). When the cost of any project for public work or im-
provement or the purchase price of any supplies and equipment shall
exceed [One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00)] Fifteen Hundred Dol-
lars ($1,500.00), the Clerk to the County shall advertise for one week
in not less than two newspapers published in Allegany County for
bids to perform said public work or improvement or to furnish said
supplies and equipment; and said bids shall be opened by the Clerk
to the County Commissioners in the presence of the said County
Commissioners, and the said County Commissioners of Allegany
County shall award the contract to the lowest responsible bidder
whose bid shall be considered reasonable, or, in its discretion, may
reject any or all bids.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
