40.

The County Commissioners of Howard County shall each receive
an annual salary of [three thousand six hundred] four thousand
dollars [($3,600.00)] ($4,000.00) payable in equal monthly install-
ments, provided, however, that said Commissioners shall elect one
of their members as Chairman and he shall be paid a sum of four
hundred dollars ($400.00) per annum, also payable in equal monthly
installments, in addition to his salary of [three thousand and six
hundred] four thousand dollars [($3,600.00)] ($4,000.00).

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That nothing in this section
shall affect or change the salary of the incumbent county commis-
sioners during their present term.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.

(Senate Bill 561)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 121, 126
(b) and (c), 131 (b) and 131 (c) of Article 33 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Elections", sub-title
"Voting Machines", and Section 140 (a) of Article 33 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Elections", sub-title
"Verification of Votes on Voting Machines and Release of Such
Machines", authorizing the use of certain voting machines so con-
structed as to furnish a printed or photographic record of the set-
ting of the counters and of the numbers registered thereon by
voting, and conforming certain procedural provisions of the Elec-
tion Law to make the same consistent with the manner of opera-
tion of such machines.

Whereas, There have been developed new and improved types of
voting machines which furnish directly a printed or photographic
record of the setting of the counters and numbers registered thereon
by voting; and

Whereas, Such machines would result in a saving of time and in
greater accuracy and efficiency in the computation and recording of
election results; and

Whereas, It is the desire of the Legislature that the election laws
of Maryland be so amended as to permit advantage to be taken of
the said improvement in the manufacture of voting machines; now,
therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 121, 126 (b), 126 (c), 131 (b) and 131 (c) of Article
33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Elec-
tions", sub-title "Voting Machines", and Section 140 (a) of Article
33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Elec-
