1728 Joint Resolutions
Activity on the part of our communities in rendering full and
complete cooperation may not have been as strong as it might have
been with regard to assisting in the promotion and development of
air carrier service. Unfortunately, the loss of air carrier service or
a schedule seems to be the only positive stimulant which will energize
the community to action. By this time the cause is usually lost; now
therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Governor
of Maryland is requested to appoint an "Air Transportation Survey
Commission" to be composed of a member of the State Aviation
Commission, a member of the Economic Development Commission,
a representative of the State Planning Department, and a member
representing each of the Cities of Cumberland, Hagerstown, Balti-
more, Easton and Salisbury for the purpose of preparing a long-range
plan for air transportation services for Maryland, and that this
Commission is authorized to engage a professional consultant to
complete a survey and report in accordance with the requirements
established by the Commission of sufficient scope and depth as to
present pertinent historical facts, develop present conditions, forecast
future air carrier service requirements within the State, develop a
proper program for assisting communities in their responsibility in
connection with securing and holding air carrier service and presenta-
tion of any and all other recommendations deemed pertinent to the
problem; which report may be used for presentation of the problem
to the Federal Administration as an appeal from the State of Mary-
land on behalf of our communities for adequate and reliable air
carrier service; and be it further
Resolved, That appropriations be made available to carry out the
purposes of this Resolution in an amount not to exceed six thousand
dollars ($6,000) and that the Commission make its report and recom-
mendations to the Governor not later than September 1, 1961; and
be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution is sent to the Governor of
Maryland and the State Aviation Commission of Maryland.
