sequent year of service thereafter as a county superintendent in the
State of Maryland not less than ten thousand dollars ($10,000).]
during the first year of a county superintendent's service as such in
the State of Maryland he shall receive an annual salary of not less
than twelve thousand dollars ($12,000)
TEN THOUSAND DOL-
LARS ($10,000); during his second year in the State of Maryland,
his annual salary shall be not less than thirteen thousand dollars
($13,000)
ELEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($11,000); during his
third year of such service in the State of Maryland, his annual salary
shall be not less than fourteen thousand dollars ($14,000)
TWELVE
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($12,000); during his fourth year of such
service in the State of Maryland, his annual salary shall be not less
than fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000)
THIRTEEN THOUSAND
DOLLARS ($13,000); and for the fifth year of such service in the
State of Maryland and thereafter, his annual salary shall be not less
than sixteen thousand dollars ($16,000)
FOURTEEN THOUSAND
DOLLARS ($14,000).

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1961.

CHAPTER 889

(House Bill 42)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 173 of
Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Public Education", sub-title "Chapter 14. Teachers'
Institutes", amending the laws concerning Teachers' Institutes in
order to clarify the language thereof and to remove certain obsolete
references therefrom.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 173 of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Public Education", sub-title "Chapter 14.
Teachers' Institutes", be and the same is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

173. Who to attend.

These institutes, being designed as temporary [normal schools]
teachers colleges, shall be attended by the State Superintendent, when
possible to do so, and by one or more instructors of a State [normal
school] teachers college or [normal] college department faculty, to be
selected by the State Superintendent and the principal of the school,
and any member of the Board of county school commissioners who
may choose to attend.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
