AFTER JUNE 1, 1939, SHALL BECOME PERMANENTLY DIS-
ABLED OTHER THAN IN THE ACTIVE PERFORMANCE OF
HIS DUTIES. NO ENGINEMAN SHALL BE RETIRED UNDER
THIS SECTION UNTIL HE HAS BEEN EXAMINED BY A
BOARD OF THREE PHYSICIANS OF THE STATE DEPART-
MENT OF HEALTH AND THEIR FINDINGS AS TO HIS DIS-
ABILITY HAVE BEEN CERTIFIED TO THE COUNTY COM-
MISSIONERS. ANY ENGINEMAN SO RETIRED AND WHO HAS
LESS THAN TWENTY (20) YEARS OF SERVICE AT THE TIME
OF RETIREMENT, SHALL RECEIVE AN ANNUAL PENSION
EQUIVALENT TO ONE-FORTIETH (1/40) OF HIS MONTHLY
SALARY FOR EACH YEAR OF SERVICE.

10 20.1. 10-20.2. The County Commissioners may retire after June
1, 1939 any engineman of a volunteer fire company who has performed
faithful services as an engineman for a period of not less than twenty
(20) years. Any engineman so retired shall receive an annual pen-
sion based on his salary at the time of retirement according to the
following schedule:

For not less than 20 nor more than 24 years service, fifty per-
centum (50%) of salary.

For not less than 25 nor more than 29 years service, sixty per-
centum (60%) of salary.

For 30 or more years of service, seventy percentum (70%) of
salary.

The enginemen of volunteer fire companies in service on June 1,
1961, shall receive credit for any service as an engineman prior to
June 1, 1961, to the same extent as though such enginemen had
service as enginemen after June 1, 1939.

10-20.2. 10-20.3. Where any engineman who is retired shall die, the
amount of the pension he was receiving at the time of his death, shall
be paid to his widow, and upon her death or remarriage, the pension
shall be paid to any of his unmarried children under the age of
nineteen years as a group, each child becoming ineligible to receive
any part of the pension upon reaching the age of nineteen years.
If the wife has predeceased the retired engineman at the time of
his death and he leaves at his death an unmarried child or children
under the age of nineteen years, they shall receive the pension as
stated until reaching the age of nineteen years.

10 20.3. 10-20.4. The County Commissioners shall pay annually
to the widow of any engineman who is killed while in the active
performance of his duties
TWO-THIRDS (2/3) OF the annual salary
received by him at the time of his death. If the widow remarries
or dies, leaving an unmarried child or children under the age of
nineteen years, the annual salary shall be paid to the child or chil-
dren as a group, each child becoming ineligible to receive any part
of the annual salary upon reaching his or her nineteenth birthday.
If the wife has predeceased the engineman at the time of his death
and he leaves at his death an unmarried child or children under the
age of nineteen years, they shall receive the annual salary as stated,
until reaching the age of nineteen years.
