AN ACT TO REPEAL AND RE-ENACT, WITH AMENDMENTS,
SECTION 9 (7) OF ARTICLE 73B OF THE ANNOTATED
CODE OF MARYLAND (1960 SUPPLEMENT), TITLE "PEN-
SIONS", SUB-TITLE "IN GENERAL"; AND TO REPEAL AND
RE-ENACT, WITH AMENDMENTS, SECTIONS 32 AND 51 OF
ARTICLE 88B OF SAID CODE (1957 EDITION), TITLE
"STATE POLICE", SUB-TITLES "PENSIONS" AND "STATE
POLICE RETIREMENT SYStem", amending the laws concern-
ing the STATE EMPLOYEES'. RETIREMENT SYSTEM AND
THE State Police Retirement System in order to provide a further
opportunity for certain persons to become members of that system
THOSE SYSTEMS and relating generally to this opportunity and
to the procedure to be followed.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That SECTION 3 (3-A) BE AND THE SAME IS HEREBY ADDED
TO ARTICLE 73B OF THE ANNOTATED CODE OF MARYLAND
(1957 EDITION), TITLE "PENSIONS", SUB-TITLE "IN GEN-
ERAL", TO FOLLOW IMMEDIATELY AFTER SECTION 3 (3)
THEREOF; THAT SECTION 9 (7) OF SAID ARTICLE AND
SUB TITLE (1960 SUPPLEMENT), BE AND THE SAME IS
HEREBY REPEALED AND RE ENACTED, WITH AMEND-
MENTS; AND THAT Section 51 of Article 88 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "State Police", sub-title
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "State Police", sub title
"State Police Retirement System", be and it is hereby repealed and
THAT SECTION 9 (7) OF ARTICLE 73B OF THE ANNO-
TATED CODE OF MARYLAND (1960 SUPPLEMENT), TITLE
'PENSIONS', SUB-TITLE 'IN GENERAL', AND SECTIONS 32
AND 51 OF ARTICLE 88B OF SAID CODE (1957 EDITION),
TITLE 'STATE POLICE', SUB-TITLES 'PENSIONS' AND
'STATE POLICE RETIREMENT SYSTEM', BE AND THEY ARE
HEREBY REPEALED AND re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

3 (3-A)
ANY PERSON WHO WAS A MEMBER OF THE STATE
POLICE PENSION FUND ON JUNE 1, 1949, AND WHO
ELECTED IN 1949 NOT TO BE COVERED IN THE MEMBER-
SHIP IN THE RETIREMENT SYSTEM, SHALL HAVE THE
FURTHER OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE
RETIREMENT SYSTEM, AT ANY TIME BETWEEN JUNE 1,
1961, AND DECEMBER 31, 1961, BOTH DATES INCLUSIVE
AND NOT THEREAFTER; BUT THIS ELIGIBILITY IS ONLY
FOR PERSONS WHO WOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR MEMBER-
SHIP IN THE RETIREMENT SYSTEM IF THEY HAD BEGUN
THEIR EMPLOYMENT IN 1961. IF DURING THAT TIME HE
ELECTS TO BE COVERED IN THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE RE-
TIREMENT SYSTEM, HIS MEMBERSHIP THEREIN SHALL BE-
GIN AS OF THE FIRST DAY OF THE CALENDAR MONTH NEXT
FOLLOWING THE DAY OF HIS ELECTION, SUBJECT TO THE
CONDITIONS OF THIS SECTION AND OF THE OTHER PRO-
VISIONS OF THIS ARTICLE NOT INCONSISTENT WITH THIS
SECTION. ANY PERSON WHO THUS BECOMES A MEMBER
OF THE RETIREMENT SYSTEM SHALL RECEIVE CREDIT
