8-26,1 The clerk of the circuit court for Montgomery County is
hereby authorized and directed to cause the entries in the set of
index books now installed in such clerk's office, relating to the Land
Records of the county, beginning with the year 1958 and ending when
a new current series is installed, to be reclassified, regrouped by
surname and reindexed according to the system now installed, so
as to facilitate the examination of such indexes and the work of
making accurate entries therein. For this purpose the clerk of the
circuit court for the county is hereby authorized to contract for the
work of reclassifying, regrouping and reindexing such indexes to
the Land Records, and he is hereby authorized to purchase all books,
racks, shelves, supplies and equipment necessary to accomplish such
purpose, and thereafter, from time to time to purchase the books,
supplies and equipment necessary to keep the Land Record index
currently up to date. The total cost of such reclassification of such
Land Record indexes, and the cost of the necessary books, racks,
shelves, supplies and equipment therefor shall be paid out of the
excess fees of the office of the clerk of the circuit court for the county.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.

(House Bill 722)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 108 (15)
(h) of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (I960 Supple-
ment), title "Justices of the Peace", sub-title "Trial Magistrates
System", to provide for the appointment of a Chief Clerk of the
People's Court of Montgomery County by the judges of said Court
and for the location in Rockville of a central clerk's office for said
Court; and to provide for the duties of said Chief Clerk, his bond
and the fixing of his salary by the County Council; and to provide
for the duties of the clerks at the branches of said court at Rock-
ville, Bethesda and Silver Spring; and to provide for matters re-
lating generally thereto.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 108 (15) (h) of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1960 Supplement), title "Justices of the Peace", sub-title
"Trial Magistrates System", be and is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

(h) [At the expiration of the term of office of the present clerks
of the trial magistrates courts for Montgomery County, and every
four years thereafter, there shall be appointed by the] The judges
of the People's Court shall appoint a Chief Clerk for the People's
Court of Montgomery County and
a clerk for each [court] branch
