CHAPTER 715
(House Bill 577)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 34 of
Article 101 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1960 Supple-
ment), title "Workmen's Compensation", sub-title "Application of
Article; Extra-Hazardous Employments", AND TO ADD A NEW
SUBSECTION (a)(l) TO SAID SECTION 34 OP SAID AR-
TICLE, providing generally that certain members of volunteer
fire companies and first aid, ambulance or rescue squads in Prince
George's County shall be deemed covered by the Workmen's Com-
pensation Law, and providing for the determinations of benefits
and requiring the County Commissioners to issue PART payment
of such compensation and a levy of a property tax sufficient to
pay for such insurance and other matters incident thereto.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 34 of Article 101 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1960 Supplement), title "Workmen's Compensation", sub-title
"Application of Article; Extra-Hazardous Employments", be and
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, AND A NEW
SUBSECTION (a)(l) BE AND IS HEREBY ADDED TO SEC-
TION 34 OF SAID ARTICLE 101, TO FOLLOW IMMEDIATELY
AFTER SUBSECTION (a) OF SAID SECTION, ALL to read as
follows:

34.

(a)  All members of all volunteer fire companies in Kent County
[and], Howard County and Prince George's County INCLUDING
VOLUNTEER RESCUE SQUAD
COMPANIES IN PRINCE
GEORGE'S COUNTY
AND HOWARD COUNTY while going to or
returning from or fighting a fire or while engaged as a member of any
ambulance first aid or rescue squad created within such fire com-
panies shall be deemed workmen for wages and engaged in extra-
hazardous employment within the meaning of this article.

(a-1) ALL MEMBERS OF ALL VOLUNTEER FIRE COM-
PANIES AND RESCUE SQUADS IN PRINCE GEORGE'S COUN-
TY WHICH RECEIVE PAYMENTS OF FUNDS AS PROVIDED
IN SECTION 650 OF THE PUBLIC LOCAL LAWS OF PRINCE
GEORGE'S COUNTY, WHILE ACTUALLY ON DUTY AS A
FIREMAN OR RESCUE SQUADMAN AND AS A MEMBER OF
SUCH VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY OR RESCUE SQUAD,
SHALL BE DEEMED WORKMEN FOR WAGES AND ENGAGED
IN EXTRA HAZARDOUS EMPLOYMENT WITHIN THE MEAN-
ING OF THIS ARTICLE.

(b)  Compensation for injury or death shall be based upon the salary
or wages received by a volunteer fireman in his private employment.
Any volunteer fireman whose income is derived from any source other
than salary or wages shall be entitled to the maximum compensation
