(House Bill 637)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 5-5 of
the Frederick County Code, 1959, (being Article 11 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Frederick County", sub-
title "Part I. General Local Laws", sub-heading "Courts", relating
to working of prisoners on public roads, buildings and properties
in Frederick County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 5-5 of the Frederick County Code, 1959, (being Article
11 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Frederick
County", sub-title "Part I. General Local Laws", sub-heading
"Courts", be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
5-5.
The sheriff of the county is hereby authorized and directed to
require all persons of sufficient ability who shall be sentenced to
imprisonment in the county jail by any court or justice of the peace
of the county as a punishment for any crime or misdemeanor com-
mitted therein to work upon the public roads, [and] highways, build-
ings and properties of the county and any municipality situate therein
or to do some work in connection with the improvement thereof, as
part of the prison discipline and management; provided the work is
for the public and not private benefit. The sentence of every such
person shall be reduced by one day for every five working days spent
in such work.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.

(House Bill 708)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 19 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Wicomico County (1959 Edition, being
Article 23 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title
"Wicomico County", sub-title "County Commissioners", to increase
the annual compensation of the County Commissioners of Wicomico
County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 19 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Wicomico County
