That Sections 417 (g), 417A, 418 (a), and 418 (e) of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Anne Arundel County (1947 Edition, being Article 2
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Anne Arundel
County", sub-title "Police Department", said Sections 417 (g) and
417A having been enacted by Chapter 658 of the Acts of 1959, and
said Sections 418(a) and 418(e) having been amended by Chapter
658 of the Acts of 1959, be and they are hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

417.

(g) [Each of the members] The Chairman of the Board shall
receive for his services an annual salary of [$600.00] $1,200, and
each member of the Board shall receive for his services an annual
salary of $900.

417A.

[On May 31, 1959, the term of office of the Medical Examiner in
office shall be ended. On June 1,1959] The Board of Police Examiners
shall appoint an experienced medical physician, who shall be a resi-
dent, voter and taxpayer of Anne Arundel County, and shall be
designated as the Police Physician of Anne Arundel County. The
Police Physician shall serve at the pleasure of the Board of Police
Examiners and shall receive as full compensation for his services an
annual salary of [$600.00] $900. The Police Physician shall examine
all applicants for appointment to or promotion in the Anne Arundel
County Police Force as to their physical condition and shall perform
such other medical services and duties in connection with the work
of the Police Department as from time to time may be requested by
the Chief of Police or the Board of Police Examiners.

418,

(a) The Anne Arundel County Police Force shall consist of one
Chief of Police, two Inspectors, and such number or numbers of Cap-
tains, Lieutenants, Sergeants, Corporals and such number or numbers
of privates and privates first class as shall be recommended from time
to time by the Chief of Police, subject, however, to the approval of
the Board of Police Examiners and the Board of County Commis-
sioners. Those members with the rank of corporal and below shall
be known as "police patrolmen" and those with a rank above that
of corporal shall be known as "police officers". The aggregate num-
ber of police officers shall not exceed at any time a number which is
equal to 1/3 of the aggregate number of police patrolmen.

(e) It shall be the duty of the Board of Police Examiners to ascer-
tain by appropriate examination and investigation the qualifications
of all candidates for appointment to or in the Anne Arundel County
Police Force and to furnish upon request to the Chief of Police of
Anne Arundel County, lists of those whom they shall deem qualified
for appointment arranged in the order of their respective qualifica-
tions as disclosed by such examination and investigation. The said
examination and investigation shall be conducted by the Board of
Police Examiners, under definite rules to be adopted by the Board of
Police Examiners from time to time [and when so adopted to be
recorded among the records of the County Commissioners of Anne
Arundel County before the holding of each and every examination
