CHAPTER 630
(Senate Bill 331)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 6 (c),
19 (1) and 110 of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition and 1960 Supplement), title "Justices of the Peace",
sub-titles respectively "Civil Jurisdiction", "Criminal Jurisdiction"
and "Trial Magistrates System", and to repeal Sections 108 (4)
and 119 (e) of the said article of the Code (1957 Edition), sub-
title "Trial Magistrates System", and to enact new Sections 108
(4) and 119 (e) in lieu thereof, to stand in the place of the sec-
tions repealed, and to add new Sections 6 (o) and 97A to the said
article of the Code, sub-titles "Civil Jurisdiction" and "Trial Mag-
istrates System", to follow immediately after Sections 6 (n) and
97 respectively, and to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sec-
tion 88 (c) of Article 27 of the said Code, title "Crimes and Pun-
ishments", sub-title "Desertion of Wife or Child", to provide for
the number and qualifications of Trial Magistrates and committing
magistrates in Calvert County, and changing the salaries and
expense allowances of trial magistrates, committing magistrates
and substitute trial magistrates and increasing the civil and
broadening the criminal jurisdiction and powers of trial magis-
trates in the county.; AND MAKING PROVISION FOR THE
SUSPENSION OF SENTENCE AND PROBATION, IN CAL-
VERT COUNTY AND THE OTHER COUNTIES TO WHICH
SAID SECTION 19 (1) APPLIES.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 6 (c), 19 (1) and 110 of Article 52 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1960 Supplement), title "Jus-
tices of the Peace", sub-titles respectively, "Civil Jurisdiction",
"Criminal Jurisdiction" and "Trial Magistrates System", be and they
are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments; and that
Sections 108 (4) and 119 (e) of the said article of the Code (1957
Edition), sub-title "Trial Magistrates System", be and they are
hereby repealed, and new Sections 108 (4) and 119 (e) be and they
are hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to stand in the place of the sections
repealed; and that new Sections 6 (o) and 97A be and they are
hereby added to the said article of the Code, sub-titles "Civil Juris-
diction" and "Trial Magistrates System", to follow immediately after
Sections 6 (n) and 97, respectively, and all to read as follows:

6.

(c) In all cases of the types mentioned in sub-section (a) of this
section which involve amounts not exceeding $300.00, trial magis-
trates of [Calvert,] Carroll and Frederick Counties shall have civil
jurisdiction.

(o) Trial Magistrates in Calvert County shall have civil jurisdic-
tion in all cases of the type mentioned in sub-section (a) above insti-
tuted after June 1, 1961, which involve amounts not exceeding $500.
