CHAPTER 624

AN ACT to add new Section 171A to Article 19 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland, title "St. Mary's County", to be under a
new sub-title "Retirement System", providing generally for a re-
tirement system for certain employees of St. Mary's County upon
certain terms and conditions.
Whereas, St. Mary's County presently has no retirement system
and it is deemed appropriate to recognize and encourage the long
and faithful public service of those employees who dedicate them-
selves to work for the County, often at personal financial sacrifice;
now, therefore
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 171A be and it is hereby added to Article 19 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "St. Mary's County",
to be under a new sub-title "Retirement System", and to read as
follows:
Retirement System
171A.
All employees of St. Mary's County, excepting those who are en-
titled to benefit under another County or State retirement system
upon completion of 25 years of service and attaining age 70 shall
receive for the remainder of their lives a retirement benefit of $125
per month from St. Mary's County, payable by the County Com-
missioners from the general funds of the County. The receipt of any
earned income in excess of $200 per month by persons otherwise
entitled to a retirement benefit hereunder shall reduce such retire-
ment benefit dollar for dollar. The County Commissioners are hereby
authorized to adopt rules, not inconsistent herewith, for the orderly
administration of this retirement system. Nothing herein shall be
construed as creating any vested rights in present or future employees
of the County.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
