CHAPTER 619

(Senate Bill 400)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 5 (c) and
(d) of Article 88B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1960
Supplement), title "State Police", sub-title "In General", to in-
crease salaries for members of the Department of Maryland State
Police to delete certain salary classifications and to change amounts
of longevity pay for certain members of the State Police.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 5 (c) and (d) of Article 88B of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1960 Supplement), title "State Police", sub-title "In Gen-
eral", be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

(c) Salaries to be paid to police employees of the Department shall
be as follows:

Any police employee receiving the salary hereinbefore specified for
the rank which he holds when this section becomes effective shall not
have such salary reduced by reason of the establishment of the salary
schedule herein prescribed for said rank, so long as he shall remain
incumbent in that rank.

(d) Each of the said salaries shall for the purposes of this section
be deemed to be the base pay for each rank and grade. [For each
three years of service up to and including twenty-four years of
service, each police employee shall receive, in addition to the base pay
received by him during each month of every year coming after the
first three years of his service, an amount equal to a percentage of
base pay in accordance with this schedule; after 3 years of service,
