C H A P. LXXV.

An ACT to repeal an act, entitled, An act refpecting the flaves
of certain French fubjects, and for other purpofes therein
mentioned.

Be it enacted, by the Genera! Affembly of Maryland, That an act of affem-
bly, entitled, An act refpecting the flaves of certain French fubjects,
paffed at November feffion, feventeen hundred and ninety-two, be and
the fame is hereby repealed; faving neverthelefs to all and every perfon and per-
fons their feveral and refpective rights acquired under the faid act.

II. And, whereas many of the flaves imported into this ftate by the French
fubjects or citizens mentioned in the faid act have been guilty of diforderly con-
duct, and are fufpected to be dangerous to the peace and welfare of the city of

Baltimore; therefore, Be it enacted, That the mayor of the city of Baltimore,
with any two juftices of the peace of Baltimore county, may and fhall have
power and authority to arreft and imprifon any negro or mulatto French flave
found in the faid city, whom they may have reafon, upon the information of one
or more credible witneffes, to fufpect to be dangerous to the peace and welfare of
the faid city; and if the owner of fuch French flave, after notice of the arreft
and imprisonment of fuch flave for the fpace of two weeks in one or more of the
news-papers of the faid city, fhall not, within the period of three months, ex-
port the faid flave beyond the limits of this ftate, and give good and fufficient
fecurity for fo doing, it fhall and may be lawful for the faid mayor and juftices,
and they are hereby authorifed and empowered, to banifh and fend every fuch
flave to any one of the Weft-India iflands, there to be difpofed of as the faid
mayor and juftices fhall order and direct.

III. And be it enacted, That in all fales made under this act, the faid mayor
and juftices aforefaid fhall pay over the fum or fums, when received, to the pro-
prietor or proprietors of fuch flave or flaves banifhed as aforefaid.

C H A P. LXXVI.
An ACT to regulate the fees of the regifters of wills in the feveral
counties of this ftate.

Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That from and after
the firft day of February next no regifter of wills in any county of this
ftate, his minifters, fervants or deputies, by reafon or colour of his office,
fhall have, receive or take, of any perfon or perfons, directly or indirectly,
any other or greater fees which fhall arife or become due for the performance
of the duties of his office, than are hereafter limitted and allowed by this
act, under the penalty of one hundred and fifty dollars for every offence; that
