510 JOINT RESOLUTIONS
WHEREAS, The preservation of a railroad economy with its many
benefits to public health, convenience, and necessity, depends upon a
modern approach to the problems of maintaining good service, suit-
able terminals and right of way; now therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Maryland
Legislative Council is requested to make a study of the economic
situation of passenger railroad traffic and possible legislative meas-
ures for the improvement thereof; and be it further
Resolved, That the Legislative Council shall complete its study and
make its report and recommendations to the Governor and General
Assembly not later than January 1, 1963.

House Joint Resolution to request the National Wildlife Service of
the United States Department of Interior to remove the wooden
barrier at the Maryland-Virginia boundary on Assateague Island,
to permit passage for fishermen.
WHEREAS, The National Wild Life Service of the United States
Department of the Interior has jurisdiction of the Virginia portion
of Assateague Island below the Maryland-Virginia boundary and has
erected a wooden piling barrier on the Virginia side to deny access
to persons from Maryland entering the Chincoteague National Wild
Life Refuge and
WHEREAS, There are plans for the construction of a bridge by the
State of Maryland from the Worcester County mainland to the
northern part of Assateague as well as plans for the establishment of
a State park on Assateague Island and
WHEREAS, the State of Virginia is at present constructing a bridge
from Chincoteague to the lower portion of Assateague Island which is
expected to be open in the Spring of 1962, and
WHEREAS, It would be advantageous to citizens of Maryland and
Virginia when these bridges are completed to be able to traverse the
coastline of Assateague Island for the purpose of surf fishing which
use would not disturb the activities of the Wild Life Refuge if the
wooden barrier were removed, now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates of Maryland, That we urge the
National Wild Life Service of the United States Department of the
Interior to remove the wooden barrier erected a, t the Maryland-
Virginia border to permit fishermen to use the coastline of Assateague
Island for surf fishing, and, be it further
